Better internal communications
Company ProfileSince its beginning in 1920, the Onan Corporation has been a leading producer of energy generation and conversion equipment with an established reputation for the quality and reliability of its products. Onan Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cummins Engine Company, Inc. of Columbus, Indiana. Cummins has annual revenues in excess of $4.5 billion and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: CUM). Cummins Engine Company is well known throughout the world for its diesel engine products.
Business SituationOnan Corporation, a leading producer of energy generation and conversion equipment, had significant pains. As a large corporation, application deployment was a daunting task: they had Oracle applications that were not running properly on their Sun SCO Unix workstations, and they had acquired another company and were faced with trying to communicate to remote offices over narrow bandwidth. To make things more complicated, hiring IS people to manage the remote sites was an inefficient and costly solution at best.
Alto's SolutionWindows Terminal Server, in conjunction with Citrix MetaFrame was the perfect solution. Alto approached the problem by conducting a careful examination of Onan’s current situation and goals, then worked with Onan senior management to create project constraints, timeincludes, and budget considerations for the new system. Alto then installed and configured Windows Terminal Server in conjunction with MetaFrame
Business BenefitOnan is now able to communicate effectively with remote locations using Thin-Client technology, and is saving money because they don’t have the worry of upgrading their systems. They can distribute and run 32-bit Windows applications even in their Unix environment, using a Citrix ICA client. Distribution and maintenance of applications to the remote offices is no problem because configuration, security, and application access is handled from a single location, the server at the main headquarters.
