What’s the difference between SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007?
Alto offers two SharePoint administration classes that on the surface sound similar yet are different enough that you should attend both. The decision depends on your role in your organization and the way it will be using SharePoint. SharePoint Services is the “free” version of SharePoint. SharePoint Portal is the more fully-featured, enterprise-level product. While there is a small amount of topical overlap between the courses, you’ll find each course addresses different aspects of the product.
Administering SharePoint teaches you the principles and practices of how to deploy, manage, and maintain SharePoint. It takes you through each phase of a deployment as you plan, install, rollout, and support SharePoint in the real world.
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Plan server topology.
- Install and configure WSS.
- Upgrade from WSS 2.0 to 3.0.
- Monitor the server to detect problems early.
- Configure authentication.
- Secure external access with SSL.
- Set up SharePoint security and permissions.
- Control site settings through the Central Administration web site.
- Control site settings through the stsadm command line.
- Backup and restore SharePoint data.
- Customize the overall site appearance through branding.
- Set up network infrastructure (DNS/AD/IIS) to support SharePoint.
- Create and apply site quotas.
